Graves Hester

Hester Graves earned a BA in mathematics and art history from Wellesley College in 2002. She received her MA in mathematics from the University of Michigan in 2004, and her mathematics PhD from the University of Michigan in 2008. She was a John Coleman Postdoctoral Fellow at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and has worked as a Research Staff Member at the Institute for Defense Analyses’ Center for Computing Sciences since 2013. While her PhD was on Euclidean ideal classes, she now specializes in elementary number theory, especially Euclidean algorithms and non-Wieferich primes. She provided the only formula for a non-trivial minimal Euclidean function on a number field. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, knitting, and gardening. She helps organize her town’s vegetable garden, and uses native plants to support insects and restore ecosystems.
